The course’s inception happened in early 1960s when Schucman, who had been a medical and research psychologist at Columbia University’s University of Physicians and Surgeons, started to experience some internal dictations. She identified these dictations as coming from an internal style that recognized it self as Jesus Christ. Schucman originally resisted these activities, but with Thetford’s inspiration, she began transcribing the messages she received.

Around an amount of seven years, Schucman transcribed what can become A Course in Wonders, amounting to three amounts: the Text, the Book for Pupils, and the Manual for Teachers. The Text lays out the theoretical basis of the program, elaborating on the key ideas and principles. The Workbook for Pupils contains 365 instructions, one for each time of the season, made to steer the reader by way of a day-to-day exercise of using the course’s teachings.
